One of the most complex tasks on the Hungarian coin market is assessing 1946-issue 2 forint pieces. It is well established among specialists that the flawless, brilliant uncirculated examples available today are almost exclusively restrikes produced decades later for state export programs. Consequently, an authentic specimen from the actual first circulating batch holds premium historical and monetary value.

The distinction between the two types lies in the minute details of the dies. Genuine period strikes feature punch variations in the date where the digits—specifically the '6' and '9'—have noticeably shorter, thicker tails. Later restrikes, by contrast, utilize dies patterned after initial patterns, which display elongated, thinner numbers. This EF-grade example in our store bears all the definitive physical characteristics of a genuine, original strike that successfully survived the heavy circulation of the late 1940s.
