This coin was born on August 1, 1946, as part of a monetary reform to halt the worst hyperinflation in world history (the collapse of the pengő). Initially, the public was highly skeptical of the new currency, forcing the government to launch a massive propaganda campaign to build trust. Due to severe post-war raw material shortages, these coins were struck using aluminum leftover from wartime production.
